Report from the sixth part of the voyage

London - Kiel

Monday the 15. of August we set out for the Netherlands. The next day we moored at the Seaport Marina not far from Amsterdam. Wednesday the 17. of August we sailed for the island of Texel. We arrived the island in the afternoon and moored in the Oudeschild Marina. The next day we choose to sail inland, the Dutch channels tempted us to enter Hariunxma Locks. It was no easy task to get Gaia trough the Lock. The current was so strong that we hardly made it. The next two days we sailed the Channels in Netherlands and passed a plethora of bridges that had to open for us. The landscape was monotonus, and the only variation was between the farmlands and the more urban places. Some of the smaller villages were very idyllic spots. Saturday we left the Channels and headed for Lanegeog in Germany. We moored there late at night. Sunday the 21 of August we left for Cuxhaven. After a while we had really good winds and set sail. Trough the Elben River we had a strong current against us. We reached Cuxhaven late at night. The harbour was scary with really heavy currents so both Gaia and our rubber dingy “The Rubber Gaia” were tested. Early Monday morning we headed for the Kieler Canal. We entered the Canal at 4 p.m., we spent the night in the Canal and arrived in Kiel in the morning of Tuesday the 23. of August.
